13 Predictions for 2013

2013 and lens flare!

There are some reviews of 2012 floating around out there, but lets look to the future!

The following are some predictions for the tech world of 2013. Some are dead certs, some are quite far-fetched. But then again, that’s what we said about Google buying a phone manufacturer!

  1. Android will continue to dominate in devices shipped, but will suffer with lack of revenue
  2. Apple will have their 80 billionth app download
  3. Samsung will ride high all the way to Q4. Blood will be in the water and the sharks will come
  4. The sharks are ZTE and Huawei. As Samsung watched and copied Apple, ZTE and Huawei are watching and copying Samsung
  5. Microsoft will buy Nokia. They are doing a stellar job of lowering Nokia’s share price to make the acquisition easier
  6. This year, we get a new iPhone. It will be an iPhone 5S – Summer / Autumn
  7. This year the iPad will get a refresh to match the industrial design of iPad Mini. – Autumn / Holidays
  8. Google will bring out the next big version of Android, 4.3 or more likely 5 called Key Lime Pie – Summer
  9. Wearable computing will move main stream. I’m waiting to get my Pebble watch.  There will be more examples of similar products. Apple’s entry will be a game changer
  10. 4G Mobile data in the UK will have a slow start, as the cost for entry in to the super speed party will be high
  11. You will actually be able to buy an OLED TV
  12. The next Xbox and Playstation will be announced. The Playstation will support 4K (Ultra HD) resolution. The Xbox may not
  13. Pundits will keep talking about the non-existent Apple Television

Well, those are the predictions! Lets see what happens in 2013. Got any more suggestions, please fire them in the comments.

Thanks for all you’ve done Mr Jobs

I know I’ll get asked, so thoughts on jobs resignation: A fantastic figure in the tech world is taking his hands off the wheel (really they’ve been off since January) but it means more sadly that his health has started to deteriorate.

I’ll talk more about this when i get back from holiday, but leave it to say thank you Mr Jobs & I wish you all the best.

The Canon Mouse / Calculator – WHY THE HELL DOES THIS EXIST!

Canon Calcumouse - WHY?Ok. Let me just try and get this straight for a second. Canon, one of the two best known camera manufacturers in the world have decided to release a Bluetooth, laser mouse, with, a bloody calculator in it.

When i first saw this story creep up on Engadget I thought i had time shifted to April 1st. I check and my Flux Capassitor is still broken, so I haven’t and oddly, this, is, a real product. I struggle to remember the last time I used a dedicated calculator. It’s either CalcBot (which is wicked!) these days, or what ever ever version is on the OS i’m using at that time.

I just struggle to believe that not only does this product exist, but it comes from a company such as Canon. What, have they been reading the ‘How To Make Irrelevant Products No One Wants’ book published by RIM?
