Here’s something perplexing that you may not have ever noticed. Your messages load in the wrong place.

Let’s take a look at that graphic shall we? New items always travel to the top of the screen; Tweets, emails, updates, even message threads but not the messages themselves.

This isn’t just something that’s in iMessage either. Look to Skype, WhatsApp and well, every other text based chat client I’ve ever seen.

So why is this? As soon as you go to type a new message, the content is pushed up and the keyboard slid underneath. Ah Ha! There’s the reason. The keyboard.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and look at chat communications in the earlier days of the world wide web. Yahoo, MSN and ICQ were some of the messaging programs we used back then. Where our little chat input box lived at the bottom of the window and the keyboard was (is) a physical object that sat below that.

Now, our keyboards are on our screens (on mobile devices) and all sources of information that comes through to us is organised by newest at the top. Except messaging.

Is this an earth shattering issue? No.

What does it matter? Well, now that I’ve seen it, I can’t ‘un-see’ it! Perhaps this is something that should be addressed on a grander scale? I’m interested in your thoughts on this one good reader.
