Yesterday I got the chance to try the future of computing…
I finally got to get my hands on the Apple Vision Pro, which has now arrived in the uk. The full experience left me with one thing in mind, ‘this is another iPhone moment’.
The first time I used and iPod Touch (the gen 1 that came before the iPhone in the UK) I immediately bought one. I knew in my hands I was holding the future of technology, to the fact that this post was written and these photos were taken with its descendant.
Why is this another iPhone moment? The answer is two fold; simplicity and magic.
The Vision Pro is very intuitive to use. I’ve used almost all the AR tech you can imagine from the last decade, but the level of considered user experience and exceptional hardware give you an experience like no other. In a very short space of time, you can be moving windows around in 3D space and dipping in and out of your own personal cinema to have a face to face conversation with the phenomenal pass through video.
And as for magic, well, the first time you watch a video filmed with it, it’s like magic. You’re in the room. You’re with the people. You can’t really fully describe it, it has to be experienced. Along with the new immersive video content too, it’s like being in a different t place, not watching that place in a window
Don’t get me wrong, it’s very, very expensive. But, this is the vision for the future of computing. Having this experience in a ‘regular’ pair of glasses is a decade away. But over the next five years, more people will get a chance to explore the future of the digital layer on the real world and see the vision for the future of computing.
